a mistake, a confession and an apology Saturday, June 7, 2008
So much's happened in the past few days, I've never (and probably some other people too) experienced pain, anger, sadness, disappointment, betrayal, confusion, uncertainty and so many other different kinds of emotions altogether at one go. I really don't need the whole world to know bout what happened, so, let's just keep the number of people who knows about it there and there. I'm just glad that my friends have been supportive so far, friends whom I don't have to worry bout making them worried, and making sure that I'm okay is their more important priority. Love you guys.
It will be a brand new start, and we will be back to square one.
I heard sincerity in the voice, and saw repentance in the mail. I want to believe that you are truly sorry, and I would like to say that I'm no longer angry. I dare not and will not say that all's forgiven, not just yet. Just hope that whatever happens in the future, put yourselves in someone else's position before you do some things and think about how you would feel should something like that ever happened to you. As for now, apologies are all accepted. note: please do not mistake accepting an apology as forgiving.
It will be a brand new start, and we will be back to square one. The learning process starts all over again.
Do you feel exhilerated and thrilled when you think you've just discovered a secret?
Today, I think I've stumbled upon a secret of a loved one. There was no anger involved. I felt nothing like what I've just described, instead, I felt calm though there was a tiny tinge of disappointment. I thought that maybe it was just an coincidence, what I'm seeing before my very eyes, but then I looked harder and realized that there's no mistake about it.
It's no big deal, really, I just don't understand why it had to be kept from me, all this time.
So much for the trust, so much for all that we've been through.
there's no use in the goodfriend speaking up for you at a time like this, dtd.
Before I start saying anything else, it was yf I was referring to in the previous entry. Plan to carry out a mini celebration for Mum wasn't carried out; she ran off for a facial appointment instead. Disappointed that she took me so lightly; I mean, I told her bout it way beforehand and still, she made an appointment that afternoon. Meant to meet her when she's done with her appointment but yf took the longest time (ever) to take a shower and get his bum off the computer. So when we finally opened the door, Mum happened to have just arrived home. Went nowhere in the end, plan not carried out, being taken so lightly by my Mum and brother, I felt like shit okay. Stomped back to my room when I heard Mum's voice in the doorway, and said to yf in tears "go away, I don't want to talk to you" when he came into my room. I don't want to plan anything for her anymore.
Caught Ironman on Saturday night with the bf and his friends. I've been anticipating it so badly and I kept thinking to myself "it'd better be good, it'd better be good". Turns out it's indeed a great movie!
Had a tiff with the bf post-movie. It was kinda ugly. Didn't expect such a simple conversation to escalate into something so serious. I ended up wiping away tears with my pillow over the phone when we both got home. Definitely did not feel good to have looked forward to something so much and then when it finally happened, it had to end in such a sorry state. It's at times like these I wonder if we truly understand each other.
Next morning, he bought some really nice wanton noodles and drove down to pick me up for work. And I was thankful that we got back to what we were as sat in the car to have our wanton noodles. It was yummy (scrumplicious), and I can't explain how grateful I was for that since I had 2 bad wanton noodles experiences in the past 2 days. Anyway, I thought that was really sweet of him, to have woken up extra early just for me. I hope that we won't be having this kinda arguements again anytime soon, don't let it become a fortnightly affair please.
I've just accepted the offer from NIE online, just wondering if they'll still accept me if I fail my PPT. NUS offered Real Estate, and the package's really informative and looks tempting but nah, I guess that's not what I really want to do. I heard they're sending out offers for Real Estate to everyone, seems like they're kinda desperate for students huh?
No more waiting, I'm glad about that. My appointment briefing for NIE's bout 5 hours away. I can't believe it, I'm going to be a teacher? Dad reminded me that I "won't be able to do anything for 8 years", about how I'll need to keep up my grades cause I'm going to be bonded and all. Not very settling, seriously. I still can't convince myself that this is what I really want. I cannot assertively say "Yes, I want to become a teacher" when people ask, just because, I've never really given a thought about it. Okay, we'll see how the appointment briefing goes later...
I suddenly have an uncontrollable desire to partyyyyy. & laugh it all off.
Maybe I just want to get drunk; and I can list at least 2 reasons to justify that. Getting drunk, I mean.
1) The immense sense of liberation you get from forgetting what's bugging you. 2) An excuse to do really silly and stupid things, say, kiss a random stranger (I haven't and will not, no matter how drunk I may get), pee in your pants/panties, stumble into random strangers (I got this some nights back; as in, someone came charging at me. had initially thought the person's one of my friends), get really loud.
And of course, 2 reasons why you shouldn't.
1) Hangovers are a bother. 2) Because people don't really appreciate the silly and stupid things you do when you're drunk.
I want to partypartyparty again soon!
Northland Primary in awhile, dinner date at KFC, let it be a good day!
ps. i still can't believe what you wanted to show me was what i wanted to show you; it's amazing. we're meant to be. bleah.
观音诞, it's time to reflect Thursday, March 27, 2008
I hope that's the right 诞, but anyhow, that's besides the point.
Right. So I got my ass down to the temple with mum today. I've never really felt THE connection with the gods that I've attempted to speak to for as long as I can remember, and hence, I never really talk much about the religion that I've been born because I do not consider sticking a few joss-sticks into some urn praying. I visit temples out of respect for my parents; because they would like me to.
Today, as I held the 3 joss-sticks in between my palms and attempted to speak to Guan Yin again (it's usually her), I asked her to bless my family members with good health (one of the usual things I ask for), 1) I asked for better communication between me and my parents, 2) a place in NTU (didn't specify which course but my heart spelt out maritime), 3) for everyone to be a little happier and 4) for myself to be much more forgiving. I teared a little at the end of it (can you believe i teared at the damned crowded kwan im thong at waterloo st, probably with hundreds of devotees all around me?!), not because I felt any connection but rather, I saw it as a time for some reflection. I seriously need to work on most of the above mentioned issues, asap.
Communication with parents I want to stop lying to my parents and tell them where I've really been; I just hope that they'd be a little more receptive and open towards what I've got to say about what I'd like to do. The reason behind all the times I lied couldn't be simpler, I didn't want them to worry, and I don't want to hear my dad repeat the same danger story over and over again, even though he still always does. I know he's a sea-battered old man now, and what he's been saying all this while makes sense, but still, he never seems to look on the bright side of life. They never really seem interested when I share my stories/discoveries with them (maybe that's because they've seen much more interesting things happening in their lives, and dolphin sightings are really not that interesting to them), so I stopped trying a long time ago. Dear mum & dad, if you ever happen to see this someday (though I hope it won't be in the recent future), I want to say sorry for all the times I've lied to you. I took up diving, much to both of your ignorance, and probably displeasure (to come). You don't have to agree with me, you'll just need to listen. There's bound to be a certain degree of risk/danger in whatever we do in life. I don't need to go into details to explain how you might become the victim of a hit-and-run accident as you walk along the streets someday (touchwood), but things like that, they just happen. I believe that when it's time to go, it's time to go. It's always been my wish to have your support in steps that I'm going to take/have already taken in life. I do wish to hear something positive, like "enjoy your trip, girl!" instead of something like a ten minute lecture on how dangerous it is (whatever that I'm going to do), usually with me ending up in silent tears in the room. I've seen some friends with really supportive parents, engaging in the same activities with their children, and at times like this, I can't help but be an envious bitch and hope that someday, we'd be able to do something like that together too, or maybe, you can just pass some of your knowledge bout the sea to me. I will continue to do the things that both of you (or maybe just dad) frown upon, (but I will remember "safety first" no matter what) because I don't feel that I'm harming anyone and it's going to be what I really enjoy doing. Dear mum & dad, I love you both deeply and you have places in my heart that nothing and nobody can replace.
gosh it's been one helluva lengthy paragraph and I wish I have the guts to tell them what I've just typed right now.
a place in NTU sometime ago back in my 2nd year at TP, I thought that maybe, I'd be able to get somewhere with my okay-but-not-so-amazing GPA. And so, I started doing research on what are some of the available and related courses I could try to apply for once we started nearing graduation. It didn't seem so difficult to get in at that time, almost everyone else around me said they weren't going to continue with their education. People didn't even want to bother to hear me explain what maritime's all about when I tried to, and I thought, just as well, doesn't really matter as long as I have my path laid out for myself. Then came the 3rd year, and all the further education talks came at us in full force, right before university application period opened. Suddenly, everyone seemed to want to go to university and started applying. My high chances of getting a place in NTU seemed to have plummeted to a near zero. I'm not making this up. It was in the papers sometime ago, so many students are applying for the local Us. Got down to the career exhibition sometime ago and talked to the course director. They're only accepting 60 students for the cohort, and so far, there's only been one pathetic (the figure, not the person) TP ex-student who got in (it's a new course, only 2 years so far). So with my average results, I really shouldn't get my hopes up, of being one of the 60+ selected few, eh? I'm sad to say that 我很看不开, but yeah, I don't think I want to tell you things anymore (don't know if I've mentioned this before, but don't we just love the ambiguity of YOUs?). You know how it feels, to have people always taking things that matter away from you? probably not. Sorry the post's going to end on a bitter note :/ only that I'm not really sorry.
DAY 3 Arranged for a transfer service to the pier from the place where we booked the Phang Nga tour for 600Baht each. Now that I think about it, I do feel it's a little expensive... but ohwell! It's going to be money well spent... so there! Yeahyeah, and my excuses... bleah.
We had our breakfast at this Shakers place and our driver picked us up from our hotel at 12pm, we set off for the pier after picking up the rest of the tourists. Just to fill you up a bit, there are numerous day tours to Phi Phi where you'd be back in your hotels by evening but we decided to spend 2 nights on Phi Phi instead!
So after a 1hr 20min ferry ride(just about as long as we took to come to Phuket again!), we arrived at the beautiful Phi Phi islands. Actually, Ton Sai Bay.
on the ferry
i love these pictures luh We were led to an agency (again! but we didn't have much of a choice, since we didn't make any prior reservations) whereby we paid 1400Baht/night for a room with air-con and hot shower at Tropical Gardens Resort. It's bloody expensive basic accommodation and they're all out to rip you off, if you ask me, but I guess that's the way things go over here, on this touristy island. It's the peak season right now and all the fan rooms are booked.
Anyhow, they got a young boy (maybe 15, 16?) to push our luggage back to our hotel for us. There isn't exactly any form of motor vehicles found on the island, and they have no proper roads too (still in the midst of development, boo, and recovery from the tsunami), so the islanders go around pushing their stuff in push carts/trolleys, whichever is more appropriate. We had trouble keeping up with him for the entire 15 minutes we spent walking luh, I just don't get how he can walk so fast while pushing that trolley, when the roads are uneven and bumpy, and there's so much traffic in the opposite direction. I feel... damned the lousy leh... haha
Got a 3rd-level room... The whole place's the concept of a group of atap houses, just that there're more levels. The room's the smallest in all the hotels that I've ever been to, but packs just about everything that you'll need for a good night's sleep.
toilet that flushes well, sink that doesn't choke.
hot-water shower that I am thankful for
we used plasters to tape the curtains to the wall cause people could just peer in. sorry for the bikinis!
dressing table with a mirror, and power sockets!
and a super doink bed! it's just so springy and I like that!
Decided that it was too late (around 5pm) to go for any snorkelling activity, so we ended up exploring a bit for our dinner. Walked around the island to see what were the other types of accommodation available, and what life on the island's like. There were quite few bamboo tattoo shops, bars, mini-marts, restaurants, and you got to be on your guard when you're out there on the streets cause every minute, there's going to be someone moving those trolleys at really high speed around you. We got ourselves a big bottle of drinking water from the minimart on the beachfront before moving off to the busier centre (not shopping centre centre) of the island. If I can call it the village, I would.
really simple houses, this would be much cheaper and a refreshing experience to stay in. Too bad there wasn't any available.

this is low tide, during high tide all the long-tail boats will be on water... pretty amazing how more than half the beach that you see now is going to be made up of water in 6 hours time.
and there were basically just many angmohs lounging around, chatting, reading, smoking etc etc.
I swear there are more angmohs than you can imagine, they're probably more likely to bump into each other in Phi Phi than back at home.
For dinner, we stumbled into this restuarant called Cosmic. It's probably one of the best things that happened to us in Phi Phi, along with all the other bests. Simple and delicious ingredients used to make our food, but the food's simply delicious can! Pun intended.
bf's carborana spaghetti; full of creamy and milky goodness, and yet, yet not too cloying. he loved it so much he wanted to go ask them freeze a pack for him to bring back to sg; I had to remind him we still had 4 more days in Thailand...
and now my turn to rave about my delicous ultra-thin crusted formaggi pizza! and it has to be oven-baked, my favourite pizzas! I have no idea what are the 4 types of cheese used in the sauce, but I don't really have to, right? Loved the powdery base too; melts in your mouth.
my first slice of delicious!
Cosmic's the name... you really.need.to.try.this if you ever stay overnight on Phi Phi island! Don't forget this okayy.
yeap, shoes off! and how the place looks from across the street.
I look like I'm biting my fingers hor. The restaurant's interior...
After dinner, there really wasn't much to do and we weren't really in a drinking mood. We headed back to our hotel room, checked with the receptionist regarding tour fees around the island, played a few rounds of Spider Solitaire, and slept. It's going to be a longggggggg day ahead! Digress: there were some really drunk angmohs on the loose and they pissed the hell out of me, making all that din when we were just about to sleep... chao angmohs!
ps. I've just finished tweaking the Day 4 pictures, really hope that you guys are enjoying looking at them as I am, if not, I'd feel like I've just put myself through some self-induced misery of having to look at the computer screen for sucha longggggggggg time.
Words that sprang into my mind as I played the clip: creepy, weird, why, ignorance, understanding, communication, autisum(?), powerful.
Got this off mrbrown's page; and if you haven't watched this video yet, I would just like to remind you to not freak out when it's just started playing. If you're really uncomfortable with all that humming and random movements/objects, forward it all the way to the part at 3min 15sec okayy.
I suddenly get the feeling that we've all been over-rating ourselves all this while; by allowing ourselves to think that we are so much more superior to them (autistic people) in every way, just because they speak a language uncommon to ours.
I personally believe that there's a voice in each and every one of them, crying out to all the people out here, to accept them the way they are and not treat them less of a person just because of their difference. butbutbut there's of course the big irony of accepting Autism as another culture rather than a mental disability; it's not about whether or not they want to blend into this society, but rather, it's the need for them to blend and survive. The need that pushes for all the support to be given to them to help them adjust. Without adjustment, how is it going to be possible for them to find a job, get along with their colleagues, pay their bills, etc etc?
